10,000 runners join the 26th Mae Moh Half Marathon

          EGAT collaborated with Lampang Province and Mae Moh District hosting the 26th Mae Moh Half Marathon to win the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Royal Trophy. Around 10,000 Thai and international runners joined the race to break a record.

          On August 6, 2017 Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in collaboration with Lampang Province and Mae Moh District hosted the 26th Mae Moh Half Marathon of 2017 for the Royal Trophy bestowed by H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn which aims to celebrate the 85th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on August 12, 2017. In this event, Mr. Weerawat Chalayon, ex-EGAT Governor chaired the opening ceremony that was also joined by EGAT executives, public and private sectors, and general people. For the convenience of Thai and international runners, it was the first year the runners could register for the race via online system. This made the number of runners joining the race reached 10,000, which broke the record of applicant number. For the next year, the full online registration will be provided to promote the race to international level.

          The 26th Mae Moh Half Marathon is comprised of 3 categories: 1) Half Marathon 21.8 km (Thai Citizen Overall / Foreigner Overall) 2) Mini Marathon 11.6 km 3) Micro Marathon 5 km. Moreover, there were special activities which was run-for-health charity 5 km. and walk-for-health 1 km.

          The race results of Half Marathon 21.8 km are as follows:

          – Thai Citizen Overall/Male : the winner is Mr. Somkid Lewmanonguen (record of 1 hour 20 minutes 44 seconds)

          – Thai Citizen Overall/Female : the winner is Ms. Oranuch Eiamted (record of 1 hour 40 minutes 32 seconds)

          The winners received the royal trophy and 10,000 baht each.

          – Foreigner Overall/Male : the winner is Mr. Gilbert Muge from Kenya (a record of 1 hour 12 minutes 47 seconds)

          – Foreigner Overall/Female : the winner is Ms. Jeminah Musau from Kenya (a record of 1 hour 27 minutes 35 seconds)

          The winners received the royal trophy and 10,000 baht each.

          The Mae Moh Half Marathon has been hosted every year since 1992. Many Thais and foreigners pay interest in the event. Apart from the race, other activities include a tour in Mae Moh community and EGAT Mae Moh; sale of clothes, sports equipment, OTOP products; and performance by celebrities. The income from the event is granted to Lampang Development and Assistance Foundation and Mae Moh District to support public activities and education. For 25 years, EGAT has granted the income from the Mae Moh Half Marathon to the foundation more than 6 million baht.
