PATTANI– Two local security volunteers died while four others were seriously injured when a bomb which had been placed in a hut in front of a school in Maikeng district, Pattani, exploded Tuesday.
According to Pattani police chief, Major General Piyawat Chalermsi, the six volunteers were guarding students and teachers in the school when the incident occurred at 9 am, local time.
“It occurred when the homemade bomb weighing 20 kg exploded at a shelter in front of the school,” he told reporters adding that those injured were taken to Maikeng Hospital for treatment.
The wooden shelter was totally destroyed in the explosion which had been activated through a phone, Piyawat said.
In another incident at 5.30am (local time), an unidentified man hurled a homemade bomb at the security post in Kampung Puyu, Takbai in Narathiwat, but no one was injured.
