EGAT in cooperation with ORDPB changes 20,674 LED light bulbs to reduce CO2 by 835 tons/year

          Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) delivered, to the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB), the outcome of LED light bulb changing project in celebration of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday anniversary. EGAT could install the total of 20,674 light bulbs at the branches of Royal Development Study Centre, ORDPB buildings and Chaipattana Foundation, which could save the country’s power consumption of 1.6 million units per year, accounting for 6.5 million baht, and reduce CO2 emissions of 835 tons per year.

          On March 15, 2017 Dr. Areepong Bhoocha-Oom, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of energy chaired the delivery ceremony to submit LED light bulb changing project in celebration of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday anniversary to Mr. Dnuja Sindhvananda, Secretary of ORDPB. The event was also attended by Mr. Kornrasit Pakchotanon, EGAT Governor and executives from the Ministry of Energy, EGAT, and ORDPB.

          The Permanent Secretary said that the Ministry of Energy gives an importance on establishing stability and sustainability to the country’s power sector for the maximum benefit on economy, society, and the public. According to 20-year Energy Efficiency Plan, the power consumption is targeted to reduce by 30% in 2036, and one of the measures to achieve the target is the support of LED light bulbs.

          The Secretary of ORDPB said that the ORDPB follows the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s philosophy of sufficiency economy by focusing on the most efficient use of limited resources. In 2014, ORDPB signed the memorandum of understanding with EGAT to promote the power consumption reduction. Then between 2015 and 2016, EGAT installed LED light bulbs to the various branches of Royal Development Study Centre.

          EGAT Governor also said that for 24 years EGAT has implemented demand side management to raise awareness of the public on the power value. By implementing label no. 5 project and LED light bulb support, 4,250 MW of power is saved, and 14.5 million tons of CO2 emissions can be reduced.
