Over the last four days, I have been visiting some of the major tourist attractions in Buriram and Surin provinces. These locations are in Northeastern Thailand. I was invited to join the winners of the Thailand Bloggers 2017 competition. We flew Air Asia from Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok to Buriram. Our return flight was with Nok Air. Both of these airlines have daily flights to this city. I haven’t been to Buriram for about fifteen years and so I was pleasantly surprised how much it has changed for the better. During the last trip there wasn’t much choice in hotels. Now they even have boutique hotels. Buriram also has sporting facilities of an international standard such as the football stadium and the racing track. There is no looking back for them now. The following are the photos that I tweeeted live during the trip.
DAY ONE: The first day included a visit to the oldest tourist attractions in Buriram. The ancient Khmer ruins at Prasat Muang Ta and Prasat Hin Phanom Rung have been the well deserved highlights of any visit to Buriram for many years. This was the reason why I came to Buriram on my first visit twenty three years ago. The ruins haven’t changed that much, but the province has.
DAY TWO: On the second day, we visited something very different. These days, Buriram has a “fifth castle”, known locally as the “Thunder Castle”. The football stadium for Buriram United. Behind the stadium there is an international standard racing track. It’s these sporting attractions that has helped the province to reach a new group of tourists, both locally and internationally. Buriram is definitely on the map now.
DAY THREE: On the third day, after an early morning flight over the stadium and racing track, we drove to neighbouring province of Surin. This province is most famous for their elephants. But also for silk weaving. In Ban Ta Sawang village we visited a place that makes the finest silk in all of Thailand. Customers include members of the royal family.
DAY FOUR: On our fourth and last day, we visited another tourist attraction in Buriram that has only been around for about four years. This is Play La Ploen, a kind of floral park. It also has an adventure playground, boutique hotel and restaurants.
