BANGKOK, February 16, 2017- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) today grants
“SET Sustainability Awards 2016” to 14 listed companies with excellent
performance in sustainability development, having good corporate governance
practices and taking stakeholders’ benefits into account, while recognizing a
list of 51 companies selected for “Thailand Sustainability Investment” (THSI), a
list of stocks with outstanding performance on environmental, social and
governance (ESG) aspects. The 14 award-winning firms of SET Sustainability
Awards 2016 are BANPU, BCP, CFRESH, CHO, HMPRO, IRPC, LPN, MINT, PPP, PTTGC,
SAT, SCC, SSSC and TOP.
In addition, this year SET has initiated a special award to recognize
distinguished person who have made significant contributions to the capital
market’s sustainable development. This year, SET grants this award to Professor
Hiran Radeesri, Chairman of Thailand Sustainability Investment Committee and
Expert on Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility, The Stock Exchange of
Thailand, to honor his contribution to drive progress and help support the Thai
capital market on the path to sustainable development.
SET President Kesara Manchusree stated that SET Sustainability Awards aims to
honor listed firms with excellent performance on ESG aspects, being role models
to inspire others. This underscores SET’s commitment to encourage listed firms
to not only focus on financial returns but also take ESG performance into
consideration, while motivating investors, especially institutional investors to
consider ESG for investment decisions. This will result in a more solid
foundation, making the capital market work for all stakeholders.
“Since 1995, SET has encouraged Thai listed firms to integrate corporate
governance practices into their operations. After that SET extended the mission
to promote sustainable development. It’s fortunate that the effort to achieve
the sustainable development goal has been supported by many experts. Therefore,
this year SET cordially grants a special award in honor of Professor Hiran
Radeesri’s valuable contribution in developing and laying a solid foundation of
CG practices for the Thai capital market for more than 20 years. He has been
instrumental in driving listed firms to truly create impacts to society and
environment at domestic and international levels,” Kesara added.
The 14 awards are grouped into three categories: eight Best Sustainability
Awards, granted to BANPU, CFRESH, LPN, PTTGC, SAT, SCC, SSSC and TOP (in
alphabetical order); four Outstanding Sustainability Awards granted to BCP, CHO,
IRPC and MINT; and two Rising Star Sustainability Awards for HMPRO, PPP, in
addition to awards for 51 companies selected for “Thailand Sustainability
Investment” (THSI).
