Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that insured persons thanked the government and the Ministry of Labour for accelerating the SSO to consider unemployment benefits in the event of employment termination. The effort has helped 15,224 people receive their rightful compensation as soon as possible, in the amount of 809,916,800 Baht.
Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that insured persons were terminated from employment for various reasons and filed for unemployment benefits at the Social Security Office nationwide. In such cases, insured persons must receive unemployment benefits for 200 days, at the rate of 70 percent of the wages under the law. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan was concerned about workers in the social security system affected by the current economic conditions. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour was instructed to work proactively. The Labour Minister assigned policies to the Social Security Office, in consultation with the Office of the Council of State, regarding cases where the employer informs the insured person that the reason for terminating employment is of the insured persons’ fault, resulting in the insured person to not receive unemployment compensation. In the process of applying for unemployment benefits, the person must make a complaint to the Labour Inspectorate or take the case to the Labour Court, causing the insured person to suffer amid unemployment.
Mr. Suchart said that the Social Security Office had accelerated the amendment of the Social Security Office announcement regarding the consideration of unemployment benefits B.E. 2564 (No. 3), effective since January 20, 2021. The acceleration has made the process of paying unemployment benefits to insured persons quicker without waiting for the Labour Court’s judgment. This process helps to remedy insured persons who lack income from unemployment. A letter of recommendation has been issued to Social Security Offices nationwide to determine the payment of unemployment benefits in such cases. To date, a total of 15,224 terminated employees have been paid in the amount. 809,916,800 Baht. The top five Social Security Offices with the most insured persons receiving money in case of unemployment were Nakhon Ratchasima, followed by Pathum Thani, the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 10, the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 7, and Samut Sakhon, respectively.
Mr. Athitat Teevipunawong, an employee from a company who received the payment of unemployment benefits, said, “I received 60 days of unemployment benefits. According to the law, the official said that insured persons would receive a total of 200 days of unemployment payments at the rate of 70 percent of wages. Thank you to the government, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, and the Social Security Office for paying the unemployment benefits. The money received will be used to spend in my daily life to alleviate the suffering of my family while I am in the process of finding a job.”
