EGAT signs MOU with Marubeni Corporation on Digital Power Solution

          EGAT and Marubeni Corporation signed the Memorandum of Understanding for adopting Digital Power Solution in power plants, which will increase their capability in the digital era under the Government’s Thailand 4.0 vision.

          On September 25, 2017 at Conference Room 203, Governor Building, EGAT Headquarters, Mr. Kornrasit Pakchotanon, EGAT Governor and Mr. Fumiya Kokubu, President and CEO of Marubeni Corporation chaired the MOU signing ceremony on the cooperation between EGAT and Marubeni to adopt Digital Power Solution in EGAT power plants. The MOU signees were Mr. Nikul Silasuwan, EGAT Deputy Governor – Generation and Mr. Hirohisa Miyata, Chief Operating Officer of Marubeni, while the witnesses were Mr. Seree La-ongutai, EGAT Director of Production Efficiency Division and Mr. Masayuki Kurihara, Marubini General Manager.

          The EGAT Governor had expressed his sincere thanks to Marubeni Corporation for the cooperation to install Digital Power Solution system in EGAT power plants, and Mae Moh Power Plant will be EGAT first power plant to be installed by this system. Digital Power Solution is intelligence software that helps predict various data of the power plants such as operation data and equipment data. All the data will be assessed for operation and maintenance work, which will reduce the loss during generation process and improve the power plants’ efficiency. If Mae Moh Power Plant can operate well with this system, it will be further adopted in other EGAT power plants.

          The President and CEO of Marubeni Corporation said that this MOU signing is the cooperation between Marubeni Corporation and EGAT for adopting Digital Power Solution to strengthen and expand EGAT power plant business in the digital era with advanced technology in compliance with the Thai Government’s Energy 4.0. This MOU signing is also the beginning of the further cooperation and good relationship in the future.

          EGAT Mae Moh won the winning prize on Best Practice for Surface Coal Mining and the first runner-up prize on Corporate Social Responsibility from ASEAN Coal Awards 2017.

          On September 27, 2017 Mr. Kornrasit Pakchotanon, EGAT Governor, Mr. Thaworn Ngamganokwan, Deputy Governor – Fuel, Mr. Amornpun Leelaporn, Assistant Governor – Generation 2, Mr. Adul Pitakchartiwong, Assistant Governor – System Control were EGAT representatives to congratulate EGAT Mae Moh that was awarded ASEAN Coal Awards 2017 which had been held in ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2017 at Conrad Hotel, Manila, Philippines.

          From ASEAN Coal Awards 2017, EGAT Mae Moh won the winning prize in the category of Best Practice for Surface Coal Mining under the topic “Mae Moh Lignite Mine” and the first runner-up in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility under the topic “The Community Collaboration for Sustainable Development in Mae Moh District”.

          Having been selected to win these 2 prizes by Board of Judge (BOJ) for ASEAN Coal Awards 2017, EGAT Mae Moh operation has been guaranteed by international standards. Both of EGAT Mae Moh’s clean coal technology and its corporate social responsibility comply with ASEAN regional regulations.

          Mr. Thaworn Ngamganokwan, Deputy Governor – Fuel said that EGAT Mae Moh gives an importance on environmental management and public participation especially the acceptance of all stakeholders.

          The awards reflect that EGAT Mae Moh is equipped with good management. The quality of the coal has been improved before supplied to the power plant, which shows that EGAT always improves the operation efficiency. Moreover, it brings about the reasonable electricity price and environmental friendliness.

          EGAT received trophies and certificates for the Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER) and the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) totalling 6 awards from the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

          On 19 September, 2017, Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment chaired the awards ceremony “Unite Our Hearts to Reduce Global Warming 2017” held by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), or TGO, at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao. The purpose is to honor entrepreneurs and various sectors that set good examples for managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the country. Acting Maj. Lt. Anuchart Palakawongse Na Ayudhya, Assistant Governor – Project Community Relations and Environment, and Mr. Worapot Inthong, Assistant Governor – Transmission System Operation, representatives of EGAT were handed 2 trophies, one for the Irrigation Way Hydropower Plant Project (Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam and Kaeng Krachan Dam) and the other for the EGAT Electrical Lightning Adjustment in Substations Project, which are projects registered as a Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER).

          EGAT received 4 more certificates, 2 of which for projects that have been certified for reducing greenhouse gases, the Naresuan Hydropower Project and the 2×1.25 MW Lam Takhong Wind Turbines. A certificate for the 11 EGAT divisions which TGO certified with a carbon footprint label for recognizing the importance of reporting greenhouse gas emissions, or Carbon Footprint Organization (CFO) was handed to Mr. Narumit Kiniman, EGAT’s Director of Project Environment Division. The last certificate for supporting greenhouse gas reduction activities for 3 consecutive years from the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) was handed to Mr. Tatree Riewcharoen, EGAT’s Assistant Governor – Corporate Social Affairs.

          Mr. Tatree Riewcharoen said that these projects promote the reduction of greenhouse gases. Creating activities and simple tools to calculate the amount of reduced or stored greenhouse gases will help develop and support greenhouse gas reduction projects from the “giver” in corporate sectors to the “receiver” in communities. TGO will certify the amount of reduced or stored greenhouse gas emitted from the activities. EGAT implemented the “Green Learning Room Project”, which is under the “Low Carbon School Project” to reduce energy use in 135 schools, and the “Low Carbon School to Low Carbon Community Project” to reduce energy use in student homes in 57 schools, totalling 9,426 households. These projects have reduced electricity bills around 21.8 million baht, energy use around 3.7 kWh, and greenhouse gas emissions almost 1,900 tons CO2e.
