Thai-Licious Journey Two web series to showcase more delightful culinary adventures  

Bangkok, 3 November, 2017 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has hosted Chef Andy Ricker, one of the United States’ most celebrated chefs of Thai cuisine and Thailand’s first Amazing Thailand Culinary Ambassador, to the kingdom to film the second season of the popular Thai-Licious Journey web series.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “The Thai-Licious Journey web series is part of the TAT’s increasing focus on gastronomy tourism, and perfectly illustrates how trying Thai cuisine and the many different dishes on offer throughout the kingdom is an ideal way to also experience the unique Thai culture and ways of life.”

He added, “The Thai-Licious Journey project also goes superbly with the TAT’s new marketing concept called Open to the New Shades of Thailand, which supports the Amazing Thailand brand and places emphasis on new perspectives of the kingdom.”

The Thai-Licious Journey series focuses on travel and food, and the many wonderful culinary experiences that visitors can have while travelling around Thailand. So from 24 October to 2 November, Chef Andy Ricker has been doing this, on a culinary adventure, which has taken him to Chanthaburi, Trat and Chumphon to film some uniquely intriguing and tantalising escapades for the Season Two.

In Chanthaburi, the journey highlighted the quaint Chanthaboon Riverside Community, the beautiful Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the fresh morning market, and a cooking experience of local dishes; such as, Chantaburi-style Fried Noodle with Crab, Stir-fried Fish with Krawan Stem, Pork Curry with Chamuang  Leaves, and Hot and Sour Soup with Chicken and Snake Fruit.

In Trat, the itinerary featured the old Bang Phra Canal community, Soi Rai Rung morning market and Ban Huai Raeng community as well as a trip to harvest Nipa Palm mangrove forest plant for cooking. Many delightful local dishes were also highlighted during the trip, including Rice Wrapped in Betel Palm Leaves, and Khanom Chak or a Coconut Sweet Rice Flour dessert.

In Chumphon, the trip visited the Bang Son community to try and taste local delicacies made with horn snails, and some local famous restaurants for culinary experiences; such as, Spicy Coconut Curry with Pork Ribs and Green Finger Lady Bananas, Thai-style Omelette with Bai Liang leaves, and Salted Fish Stir-fried with Coconut. The last episode for the season was filmed at Khao Matri featuring the beautiful landscape of this seaside province.

The new episodes are scheduled to broadcast on social media channels of the TAT’s New York and Los Angeles Offices in April next year.

While in Thailand this time around, Chef Andy Ricker also hosted a Thai-Licious Fanclub Dinner at E.Pochana Seafood Restaurant on 2 November.

Andy Ricker is the chef and owner of the Pok Pok restaurants, with branches in Portland and NYC, which has recently received the Bib Gourmand Awards for the 2018 MICHELIN Guide New York City. He is also the founder and owner of Pok Pok Som – a drinking vinegar company – and a partner in Pok Pok Thaan – a charcoal importing enterprise. Among his various achievements and accolades are two Time James Beard Awards and best selling cookbook author.

TAT welcomes the launch of Qatar Airways’ new direct flights to Pattaya

Bangkok, 3 November, 2017 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to welcome the launch of Qatar Airways’ latest route to Pattaya. The Doha-based airline has recently announced its plan to fly between Doha and U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport in response to increased customer demand for services to Thailand.

His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of our newest route to Pattaya in Thailand, our fifth route to one of Southeast Asia’s most popular destinations. Thailand is continuing to grow in popularity with our passengers, who love travelling to this beautiful country to enjoy its incredible culture, cuisine and natural scenery.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “Qatar Airways is a long-standing partner to Thailand, and we greatly value its commitment to expand direct air services into secondary destinations around the country.

“The new service to Pattaya is Qatar Airways’ route to Thailand. We appreciate such move, which will certainly help to reinforce the strong ties between Qatar and Thailand.”

Qatar Airways’ new four-times-a-week service between Doha and Pattaya starts on 28 January, 2018, and is in addition to the airline’s existing flights with services 35 times a week to Bangkok and 14 times a week to Phuket.

From 1 December, 2017, the airline will operate a daily flight to Krabi. From 12 December this year, it will fly four times a week to Chiang Mai. These two new services will take the airline’s weekly frequency to Thailand to 60 flights a week.

The new Doha-Pattaya flights will offer five-star comfort on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aeroplanes, with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class. It will be the first Middle Eastern airline to offer flights to and from Pattaya.

The winter timetable for the new flight service is as follows Doha (DOH) to Pattaya (UTP) QR828 departs 20:05 Hrs. and arrives 06:30 Hrs. (next day) on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Pattaya (UTP) to Doha (DOH) QR829 departs 07:50 Hrs. and arrives 11:40 Hrs. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
