Thailand and Bhutan have agreed to increase trade volume by two-fold from the current USD24.3 million within five years and to encourage Thai investment in Bhutan’s infrastructure development.
The agreements were reached at the 3rd Thailand-Bhutan Annual Bilateral Dialogue at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Dec 1.
The bilateral dialogue was co-chaired by Mrs Busaya Mathelin, permanent-secretary for Foreign Affairs, while H.E. Mr Sonam Tshong, Foreign Secretary of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
The two sides discussed various key aspects of the cooperation between Thailand and Bhutan, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s press release.
In the area of trade, they agreed to increase current trade volume by twofold within 5 years’ time from the current USD 24.3 million.
They also agreed to encourage Thai investment in Bhutan’s construction in infrastructure and tourism sectors.
The Thai side reaffirmed its intention to continue to act as Bhutan’s development partner. The two countries also committed to showing mutual support in regional and multilateral fora.
The Thailand � Bhutan Annual Bilateral Dialogue acts as a forum where issues to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries are discussed, reviewed and advanced.
