600 Wang Noi people attend the first public hearing of Wang Noi Power Plant Project (Replacement Units 1-2). All the comments will be included in scopes and guidelines for environmental impact assessment which covers all concerns of the local people.
On August 19, 2017 Mr. Pasith Akaravuthbavornsiri, Wang Noi Deputy District chaired the 1st public hearing managed by SECOT Co., Ltd. in order to define scopes and guidelines for environmental impact assessment of Wang Noi Power Plant Project (Replacement Units 1-2). Acting Maj. Lt. Anuchart Palakawongse Na Ayudhya, Assistant Governor – Project Community Relations and Environment, EGAT, Mr. Pongtorn Milinthaboon, Provincial Energy Officer – Ayutthaya, government officers, community leaders, and general public totaling 619 persons joined the public hearing held at the multi-purpose building, Lamtasao Municipality, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya Province from 9.00-12.00 am.
Mr. Khanchai Kriangkraiudom, the environmental specialist of SECOT Co., Ltd. said that the public hearing was held to explain details and scopes on environmental impact study of Wang Noi Power Plant Project (Replacement Units 1-2) with capacity of 1,470 MW that would replace the existing power plant expected to be decommissioned in 2019. Specialists on occupational health and safety and public participation of SECOT Co., Ltd. also joined to give details on environmental impact study including air quality, noise, surface water quality, biology resource, waste, environment and accident from transportation, public utility system, economy and society, history and archaeology, as well as view and tourism.
For all concerns expressed in this floor such as environmental impact and public utility around the power plant including road construction and water resource development for agricultural purpose will be scoped by the company to find preventive and problem-solving measures for people living in 5 km. radius that covers 4 districts in 3 provinces namely Wang Noi District in Ayutthaya Province, Nong Suea District and Khlong Luang District in Pathum Thani Province, and Nong Khae District in Saraburi Province. After this will be environmental impact assessment reporting process and the 2nd public hearing for the report.
Acting Maj. Lt. Anuchart Palakawongse Na Ayudhya, Assistant Governor – Project Community Relations expressed his thanks to Wang Noi local people and others for attending the public hearing and said that EGAT will find out ways to solve the concerns. He also confirmed that EGAT has strengthened the power system security of the country along with care for environment and society so that power plants can live with communities in harmony.
