The Cabinet, during its meeting on 12 January 2021, approved a new package of relief measures in the immediate term to help the general public and businesses affected by impacts of the new wave of COVID-19 infections.
The new package includes the reduction of electricity and tap water fees for households and small businesses for a period of two months, from February to March 2021. The reduction aims to reduce the economic burden of the people and entrepreneurs, as well as helping the country’s economy move forward.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission have been assigned by the Cabinet to ask internet service providers to consider reducing internet usage fees and increasing internet speeds to support the people who have to “work from home.” Internet service providers will also be asked to provide free downloads of the “Mor Chana” application for three months.
The new phase of the “co-payment” scheme will be launched for one million people. Registration for the scheme will be opened in late January 2021.
A new round of the cash handout scheme, known as “Rao Chana (We Win),” will be carried out for workers in the informal sector, freelancers, and farmers for a period of two months, when each of them will be given 3,500 baht each month. The Ministry of Finance was instructed to submit details of the scheme to the Cabinet for consideration next week.
All relevant agencies have been told to provide sufficient equipment to prevent COVID-19 in risk areas and for the people with low purchasing power.
Entrepreneurs will be urged to use their own factories as “factory quarantine.” Governors of the five provinces, namely Samut Sakhon, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, will coordinate with relevant agencies in providing assistance for the entrepreneurs who are willing to give cooperation on the factory quarantine.
