Commissioner General of Police Orders Full Care for Injured Traffic Officers in Bang Na

Bangkok: The Commissioner General of Police has expressed grave concern for the traffic police officers injured in a recent car crash at an alcohol checkpoint in Bang Na district. He has instructed that they be given full medical care and welfare support.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, provided details of the unfortunate incident. A vehicle struck Pol. Lt. Tharan Phiromjitjaroen, a traffic officer from Bang Na Police Station, near an alcohol checkpoint on Thepparat Road (Bang Na-Trat), at kilometer 1 on the outbound lane. The collision resulted in serious injuries to Pol. Lt. Tharan. Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, emphasized the importance of ensuring full medical attention and welfare benefits for the injured officer. Additionally, he has called for decisive legal action against the perpetrators involved, stressing that such endangerment to officers and the public is intolerable. A fair investigation will be conducted following due process.

The police spokesperson highlighted that alcohol checkpoints are established mainly for public safety and to mitigate accidents related to drunk driving. The Royal Thai Police has developed standards for all checkpoint setups across the nation, ensuring uniformity and proper procedures. These standards include advance warning distances, safety equipment like barriers, signal lights, and reflective materials, along with the use of technology and cameras to enhance operations, transparency, and prosecution. Police officers are instructed to strictly adhere to these guidelines. The public is urged to respect traffic laws and cooperate with police officers at checkpoints to ensure everyone's safety on the roads.

The Royal Thai Police reiterates that the duties of police officers are performed to safeguard public safety. Any individuals who resort to violence or violate laws, causing harm to officers or the public, will face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
