Bangkok: The Criminal Court sentenced “Kamnan Nok” to life imprisonment for ordering the shooting death of a highway police officer, stating that there was clear evidence and witnesses to confirm it. The Criminal Court recently ruled in the case of Kamnan Nok, a famous former kamnan in Nakhon Pathom Province, who ordered the shooting death of Police Lieutenant Bank at a birthday party at his residence in Nakhon Pathom Province. The court sentenced him to death for murder, which is the most serious offense, with the death penalty. However, during the trial, the defendant compensated the five co-plaintiffs until they withdrew their petitions, which led to mitigating circumstances, leaving the sentence as life imprisonment.
According to Thai News Agency, in this case, the court considered the evidence and found that all the witnesses testified in a consistent manner that on the day of the incident, Kamnan Nok requested that his relative, who was a police officer with a rank, be transferred from a car patrol officer to a motorcycle patrol officer. However, the deceased refused and asked to wait until October because someone would be retiring, which made Kamnan Nok unhappy.
Police Lieutenant Bank then challenged Kamnan Nok to a drinking duel. Police Lieutenant Bank ordered his men to find handcuffs to put around Kamnan Nok’s arms, but they couldn’t find any, so they used cloth from a chair to tie his arms instead. When Kamnan Nok couldn’t drink anymore and felt embarrassed, he slapped the table and got up from the VIP table in a fit of anger.
Then the police officer, who was a relative, and Sergeant Bank followed him to apologize, but Kamnan Nok chased him back home and said, ‘Your face will be covered in blood.’
Kamnan Nok asked about the gun and said that this could not be kept, causing Mr. Thanatchai or Nong Tha Pha, who was a close subordinate, to walk over and ask which one. Then Mr. Nong walked to the VIP table to see which one and came back to ask Kamnan Nok if he wanted it. He walked back to the table where Police Lieutenant Bank was sitting and shouted to Kamnan Nok, ‘Big Brother.’
Then Kamnan Nok gave a signal by nodding, so Mr. Nong shot Sergeant Bank 7 times, causing his death and seriously injuring others.
The court therefore ruled that Kamnan Nok was the one who ordered the killing of another person, committing the crime as charged. The defendant’s actions were a single crime, violating multiple laws. The court sentenced him to the most severe charge of murder. However, during the trial, the defendant compensated the five co-plaintiffs until they withdrew their petition. There were mitigating circumstances, leaving the sentence life imprisonment. The sentence was to be counted after the black case number in which the Criminal Court for Corruption Cases had previously sentenced him to imprisonment for another two years.
During the reading of the verdict, the defendant’s behavior, Kamnan Nok, had a clearly worried expression, looking for relatives all the time. But after reading the verdict, his expression clearly relaxed, then hugged his wife and mother, and burst into tears. In this case, Kamnan Nok, the defendant, can appeal the case within 30 days.
