EHAT organized EGAT INNOVATION SHOWCASE 2018 to exhibit power innovations that help strengthen the security of power system, improve the people’s quality of life, and drive the economic growth in compliance with Thailand 4.0 Policy.
On May 10, 2018 at EGAT Headquarters, Mr. Viboon Rerksirathai, the Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), chaired the opening ceremony of EGAT INNOVATION SHOWCASE 2018 under the theme “Innovate Power Solutions for a Better Life” in response to the Government’s Thailand 4.0. The event showed creative research and quality innovation on power generation that is friendly to the environment to enhance the continual supply of power to the public even during maintenance period.
The EGAT Governor said that during the age of Energy 4.0 when technological changes have occurred, EGAT supports research and innovation that will enhance efficiency and security of power system. Examples of EGAT inventions include a robot to clean insulators while the power supply is not disrupted, software development to improve efficiency of generation and transmission systems including Power System Oscillation Solving to prevent blackout. Both inventions received awards from the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland.
Moreover, EGAT has conducted research on by-products from power generation process to create added values as the income for the local people. For example, bottom ash from Mae Moh Power Plant is used to produce wall blocks. With its insulation quality, the blocks made from bottom ash are not heated or processed with chemical materials. As a result, they are cheap and friendly to the environment. Humic acid can also be extracted from leonardite, a by-product from mining process which is comprised of minerals essential for various plants. When the leonardite is mixed with other waste like poultry manure and bagasse, it becomes fertilizer to be used by community enterprises.
In the event, there was a speech by the former EGAT Governor, Mr. Kornrasit Pakchotanon, under the topic “Innovation as a Solution for a Better Life” and a panel discussion on energy innovation by Dr. Twarath Sutabutr, Director General of Energy Policy and Planning Office and Dr. Suthee Aksornkit, an engineering and technology expert.
“Technologies and innovations are essential to drive the country to the sustainable future. Apart from supporting EGAT officials to create inventions, EGAT has also funded other sectors to join in creating innovations which will further develop the economy and society of the nation,” said EGAT Governor.
