EGAT inventors received 6 awards from an international research, invention, and innovation exhibition and competition at the 11th International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS 2017) in Warsaw, Poland.
Mr. Patrapong Thepa, EGAT’s Assistant Governor-Policy, said that EGAT’s team of inventors entered their inventions, which received outstanding awards from the competition “EGAT Useful Inventions 2016”, in an international research, invention, and innovation exhibition and competition at the 11th International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS 2017). The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) led a team of Thai researchers and inventors to participate in the exhibition and competition on October 9-11, 2017 in Warsaw, Poland.
For this year, EGAT received a total of 6 awards from 3 inventions. A platinum medal and a special award from Saudi Arabia are for the invention which repairs transmission lines without cutting off the power supply. It is a new innovation which has never been done by any other department before. It applies EGAT’s existing insulators, devices, and machines. The working principle is, an officer is sent from the ground up to the damaged transmission line, then repairs it by binding it with a protective device without cutting off the power supply.
A gold medal and a special award from Taiwan are for the invention “Dust Exterminator Box” which reduces dust dispersion created from a coal scooping device that scoops up lignite and sends it to the Mae Moh Power Plant in Lampang Province. The device is a box installed with a water spray nozzle to control the direction of the dust. It includes a sensor which automatically adjusts the amount of water according to the amount of dust. The device has reduced coal dust from an average opacity of 15.3 percent to only 0.3 percent.
A bronze medal and a special award from Iran are for the invention which soaks and collects oil mist from the oil reservoir of the generator of Bhumibol Hydropower Plant Unit 1. The device helps soak and collect oil mist from a tray that collects the lubricating oil from the generator in order to prevent oil mist from leaking into the engine room. Moreover, it works automatically and conserves energy by not needing an electronic controlling system.
“EGAT is determined to become a global organization of efficient electricity generation and fuel management. EGAT will continue to research and develop new innovations for operation along with being responsible to society and participating in society to receive confidence and trust from the Thai society,” said EGAT’s Assistant Governor-Policy.
