New york: One person died after an explosion at a dry dock in New York. A powerful explosion at a dry dock in the Staten Island borough of New York City has killed one person and injured 36 others. The blast occurred while firefighters were battling a blaze and attempting to rescue two people trapped inside.

According to Thai News Agency, officials revealed that two firefighters required hospitalization, one of whom is the fire chief who sustained serious injuries. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that the incident was a complex and rapidly escalating emergency situation. Authorities have not yet released further details about the fatalities, beyond confirming they were civilians, and a thorough investigation will begin immediately after firefighters have brought the blaze under control.

Officials further stated that prior to the explosion, firefighters received a report of a fire in the basement with two workers trapped inside. While they were investigating, the explosion occurred on Richmond Terrace in Staten Island, a part of New York City located across from Manhattan Bay.
