Fire at Bangkok Furniture Warehouse Controlled, Officials Monitor Chemical Concerns

Bangkok: The fire at the furniture warehouse on Soi Chalong Krung 55 has been completely extinguished. Officials are urgently inspecting chemicals and preparing to close the command center today, but will continue to open the evacuation center to provide services to the public.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire incident at the furniture warehouse in Soi Chalong Krung 55, Lat Krabang District, Bangkok, initially occurred at 4:00 PM on May 11. Another fire broke out at 1:00 AM on May 13 due to high temperatures and strong winds, but it was contained to a small area. Continuous rain throughout the night helped control the fire by 7:00 AM. Although the flames have been extinguished, smoke and chemical odors persist in the area.

Today, Ms. Kesi Chantraprapawat, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok, visited the Incident Command Center at the Lat Krabang District Office to support the officers. Mr. Tharapong Petchkong, Director of Lat Krabang District, stated that the fire was fully contained by noon. Officials from the Pollution Control Department are testing water samples for chemical contamination, and the area is cordoned off to prevent pollutants from entering public water sources. The Department of Disease Control is offering health check-ups to local residents who might have been exposed to chemicals.

The Lat Krabang District Office’s incident command center will close today, but monitoring of the situation will continue. Two temporary shelters at Wat Suthaphon and Wat Pluksattha remain open, although most displaced residents have returned home or are staying with neighbors.

The warehouse, not a factory, adheres to legal requirements for operation. Further inspections are needed to determine the cause of the fire and assess any structural damage, especially in private areas like the basement. Forensic officers will conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the fire’s origin.
