Five Thai Workers Released by Hamas Safely Return to Israel

Tel Aviv: Five Thai workers who were held hostage by Hamas have been released and are reportedly in good health, with the ability to communicate normally, according to the latest update from Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand’s Minister of Labor. The workers were named as Mr. Watchara Sri-uan, Mr. Phongsak Tanna, Mr. Sathien Suwannakam, Mr. Surasak Lamnao, and Mr. Bannawat Sae Thao. All have undergone initial medical assessments, confirming their safety and good mental health. They are currently en route to Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofe) for further care, with Israeli authorities advising a rest period of at least seven days.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Boonsong Tapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, detailed the benefits the five workers will receive following their release. These include compensation from the Israel Insurance Institute and severance pay, with the Ministry of Labor coordinating through the Labor Section at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv. Furthermore, if they are members of the fund assisting job seekers abroad, they will receive 15,000 baht in assistance for returning due to the conflict. Social security benefits are also in place, with Mr. Wutthachai Sri-uan receiving 1,431.36 baht, Mr. Phongsak Tanna 10,982.02 baht, Mr. Sathien Suwannakam 53,058.65 baht, Mr. Surasak Lamnao 12,637.61 baht, and Mr. Bannawat Sae-tao 7,829.28 baht, along with additional compensations and assistance.

Mr. Boonsong further stated that in Thailand, the Ministry of Labor, through its regional offices, will offer support and encouragement to the families of the released workers. The ministry aims to expedite the process of allocating the workers’ benefits. He emphasized that upon their return to Thailand, he and other ministry executives will personally welcome the workers, ensuring a smooth transition and support during this challenging time.
