Freak storm to hit all parts of Thailand during March 6-9

The Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning of freak storm in regions of the country tomorrow (Tuesday) until Friday, with the possibility of hail storm in some parts of the northern and northeastern regions.

The freak storm was attributable to strong high pressure from China which has blanketed southern China and is expected to move downward to cover the Northeast and the South China Sea on Tuesday.

During the storm, the department warned people to avoid taking cover under big trees or standing under huge bill boards which are not strong and to refrain from staying in the open field for their safety sake.

Farmers are also warned that their crops may be damaged from the freak storm.

The following provinces to be hit by freak storm tomorrow and Wednesday include Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Bung Karn, Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Muk Dahan, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin Roi-et, Yasothorn, Amnart Charoen, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast; Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaew, Chachoengsao and Chon Buri in the East; Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya in the central plains; Bangkok and its peripherals.

During March 8-9, areas to be affected with freak storm include Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast; Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Uttradit, Phitsanuloke, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Petchabun in the North; Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Sing Puri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Rat Buri, Bangkok and its peripherals in the central region; and southern provinces of Petchaburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumporn and Surat Thani.
