On November 4, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, chaired the social security academic conference 2022 (Central Region) entitled Modernizing SSO 2022: Driving Towards A Modern Social Security System. He gave a special lecture on “Policy for development and upgrading the workforce’s lives.” The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, reported the event’s objectives. The Ministry of Labour’s senior executives gave a welcome at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Lak Si District, Bangkok.
Mr. Suchart said that the event’s purpose was to enhance knowledge and understanding of the importance of social security work for stakeholders. It aimed to listen to opinions on social security development from all parties involved and to allow the attendees to exchange opinions. The Social Security Office could then use inputs to expand results in the future. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, gives importance to the revival of the country’s economy after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has helped employers and insured persons by reducing contribution rates, remittance of contributions via electronic channels, and improving unemployment benefits as well as benefits and medical services in case of COVID-19. In addition, the Social Security Office is an important government mechanism in helping employers and insured persons through programs such as the proactive COVID-19 screening in establishments, the vaccination program for insured persons, the Factory Sandbox project, the “Section 33 we love each other project”, the compensation program for employers and insured persons in the highest controlled areas in 29 provinces, and the program for insured persons in entertainment businesses. Today, the Labour Minister had the opportunity to be the chairman of the social security conference for the five regions for the first time in the central region. He said it is a good project to comprehensively increase communication channels for employers, employees, and insured persons. He expressed his confidence that the five social security conferences will be a guideline for creating a good quality of life for the insured persons, providing sustainable benefits, including modern government services that meet the needs of the insured persons. In addition, all comments would provide the Social Security Office with a guideline for service development and benefits to maximize the good quality of life for insured persons.
The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, said that today’s event had close to 500 attendees, comprising the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives and officials, the Social Security Office’s staff, the Social Security Board, employer representatives, employee representatives, and insured persons. In addition, within the event area, there were academic exhibitions, such as the past COVID-19 assistance operations, along with guidelines for future actions and information about the challenges of the COVID-19 situation to lead to the development of service and sustainable benefits to build trust and reliance among insured persons.
