Labour Minister Assigns Spokesperson to Udon Thani to Visit Homeworker Groups to Promote Careers and Boose the Community Economy

On November 9, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on Politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Employment’s Inspector-General, Mr. Sibmuenchai Phothisin, and committee, to visit Udon Thani Province to visit and meet homeworkers at the “growing mulberries and weaving indigo-dyed fabrics” group. The group’s chairperson, Mrs. Somphan Kamparnmee, heads of agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Udon Thani Province, and members of the group welcomed the visiting committee at the Mulberry Planting Learning Center, Chiang Yuen Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District, Udon Thani Province.

 

Mrs. Thienrat said that the government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, gives importance to improving the quality of life of all target groups of workers, especially the 22 million informal workers. Efforts aim to create employment at the local level because every worker plays an important part in driving the country’s economic and social development. Today, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned her and her team to visit the area to meet and encourage the homeworker group members from the “growing mulberries and to weave indigo-dyed fabrics” group in Udon Thani Province.

Mrs. Thienrat continued that from talking to the group’s president, this group was supported by agencies under the Ministry of Labour of Udon Thani Province, following the missions of each agency. The Provincial Employment Office has promoted group integration and applications for membership to the homeworkers group. Until now, ten members have an average income of 3,000 – 5,000 Baht monthly per person. The Skill Development Office has offered online marketing skills training, the Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office has provided advice on labour protection laws, and the Provincial Social Security Office has offered support in promoting applications as insured under Section 40, providing social security and access to benefits. In addition, the Ministry of Labour has accelerated the draft bill promoting the development of quality of life and protection for informal workers. This will enable workers in the informal sector to have social security and a better quality of life.
