The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep revealed that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul has initiated policies to promote employment and stable income among all groups, as well as efficient management of foreign workers. He referred to claims on the government supporting businesses in employing migrant workers to fill labour shortages, where he explained that Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) opened up 7+1 professions for ASEAN workers. These include medics, dentists, accountants, engineers, researchers, architects and the hospitality and tourism industry. As for other professions, he explained that migrant workers would only be allowed in labour-intensive and household jobs.
Mr. Ananchai explained the Ministry of Labour’s policies on promoting employment through various channels such as the Smart Job Center and Smart Job Application. He explained that before permitting migrant workers into the kingdom, businesses would consider Thai workers first, but if none applied then migrant workers would be allowed to apply.
We must admit that Thai people do not prefer the 3D jobs, which is dirty, difficult and dangerous. The Ministry of Labour thus finds it necessary to import foreign workers through MOU channels so that the needs of businesses can be met, said Mr. Ananchai
