Labour Minister Responds to Government Policies and Instructs Working Group to Drive Improvements to Vulnerable Homeworkers’ Quality of Life

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chonkmlin responded to government policies to drives integrated projects to improve the quality of life of vulnerable home workers. He ordered the establishment of a working group to tackle poverty and improve the quality of life of vulnerable workers groups, covering all dimensions.

On March 4, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklim reported that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, emphasize solutions to poverty, especially the integration to sustainable development for a better quality of life among vulnerable people in all dimensions. The Labour Minister responded to the government’s policy. On March 3, he witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding for the “integrated project on the development of the quality of life of vulnerable home worker groups between 12 ministries as 1 unit”. Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha presided over the ceremony at Phakdee Bodin Building, Government Houses. The scope of cooperation of the Ministry of Labour is a domestic employment service for vulnerable people to have a job and income that is suitable for living. It also serves to provide guidance and promotion of occupation, including developing vulnerable households to have the knowledge and ability to work following the labour market demands.

 Mr. Suchart also spoke about the Ministry of Labour’s part. He has instructed the Permanent Secretary of Labour to set up a working group to study ways to promote and support vulnerable homeworkers and improve their quality of life. The efforts aim to ensure equal access to labour rights and welfare in all dimensions. The Ministry of Labour’s main tasks are as follows: The Department of Employment will provide career guidance and support employment. The Department of Skill Development will develop skills and train the self-employed. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare will help take care and ensure protection under the labour law. The Social Security Office will take care of the benefits to strengthen life’s security, and the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour will be the central agency in coordinating information with both internal and external agencies. In particular, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security supports vulnerable groups’ information and plans to assist following the mission of each agency.
