Bangkok: The Metropolitan Police Chief has initiated an urgent search for the gunman responsible for the shooting of a Uthenthawai student, which resulted in one person being injured. The chief has also advised heightened vigilance during the ‘Blue Day’ exam scheduled for February 1.
According to Thai News Agency, police received reports of the shooting incident involving a Uthenthawai student in the MBK area, at the intersection of Phaya Thai Road and Chula 12. Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, disclosed that riot police officers heard approximately five gunshots around 10:50 p.m. on January 29. Upon investigation, they found Mr. Narawit, who had sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest, and he was swiftly taken to Police General Hospital for treatment.
The police investigation team is actively pursuing the suspects to bring them to justice. They are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the area to identify the shooters and trace their escape route to facilitate legal proceedings.
Pol. Col. Noppasin emphasized the importance of this investigation due to the upcoming ‘Blue Day’, marking the anniversary of the Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Uthenthawai Campus on February 1. Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom has instructed various police units, including Metropolitan Police Division 6, the Patrol and Special Operation Division, and the Rapid Response Unit, to be on high alert to ensure security. Additionally, a security checkpoint will be set up at the institute’s entrance, and efforts will be made to engage teachers, lecturers, and parents to foster a unified understanding of the situation.
