The Cabinet, during its meeting on 7 April 2021, approved the proposal by the Ministry of Labor seeking to extend the period of COVID-19 testing for migrant workers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar from 16 April to 16 June 2021.
The collection of the biometric data of workers from the three neighboring countries will also be extended until 16 June 2021.
The COVID-19 screening program for foreign workers and the collection of their biometrics are part of the Government’s policy to grant permission for certain groups of foreign workers to stay and work legally in Thailand in special cases, despite the spread of the new wave of COVID-19.
As for the migrant workers who have been allowed to work in Thailand, they are required to register their personal records with authorities by 31 March 2022.
According to statistics compiled by the Ministry of Public Health and the Immigration Office, as of 5 April 2021, about 170,000 migrant workers in Thailand received COVID-19 tests and registered their health insurance, while about 422,000, out of 654,864 migrant workers from the three countries, have had their biometric data collected.
