Phayao’s Hom Mali rice strain was recognized as Thailand’s best Hom Mali jasmine rice this year, exemplifying the strain as the supreme Thai rice, according to the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT).
NNT reported that the governor of Phayao, Mr Narongsak Chaloemkiat has said the Thailand’s best Hom Mali jasmine rice award committee has named rice product by the Hom Mali jasmine rice farmer group from Sob Bong subdistrict in Phayao as the best Hom Mali rice for the 2016-2017 production year.
The campaign, held by the Commerce Ministry, is aimed to promote the cultivation and development of Hom Mali jasmine rice, which is in demand in both the domestic and international markets. Winners of this campaign have received a total of 600,000 baht prizes from the ministry.
The first runner-up in this contest is also another group of farmers from Phayao’s Dong Jen subdistrict, who also received a total of 240,000 baht in prizes.
The result of this competition is evidence that Phayao is the best place to grow Hom Mali rice in Thailand from the produce’s special characteristics of purity, grain beauty, and its nutritional values after being cooked.
