Privy councilor Charnchai Likhitchittha dies at age 70

Privy councilor Charnchai Likhitchittha died of blood poisoning on Wednesday at Chulalongkorn hospital at the age of 70. A Royal bathing rite is to be held tomorrow at Wat Benjamabopit.

Mr Charnchai was former president of the Supreme Court succeeding Mr Supachai Phu-ngarm. After his retirement, he was appointed justice minister of the government of prime minister Surayud Chulanont.

In 2008, he was appointed a member of the Privy Council and again on December 6 last year was reappointed a privy councilor.

Born on April 25, 1946, Mr Charnchai finished his secondary education at Wat Songtham school. He graduated with an LLB from Thammasat University and passed the Thai Bar before joining government service as an assistant judge and, ever since, his career rose steadily until he became the president of the Supreme Court in 2005.
