Qatar Airways has opened direct flights between Doha, the capital of Qatar, and Chiang Mai, Thailand’s popular tourist destination in the North, with the inauguration flight arriving in Chiang Mai from Doha on Wednesday (Dec 13).
The inauguration flight was warmly greeted on its arrival at the Chiang Mai international airport by representatives of agencies concerned.
Boontha Chailert, president of the Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association, said Chiang Mai is the fourth destination in Thailand for Qater Airways to make direct flights to from Doha.
Each Doha-Chiang Mai direct flight is expected to generate about 7 million baht per flight in revenue from tourism during the cold season, he said.
Qatar Airways executive Akbar Al Baker said the route has been opened because Chiang Mai is very popular to passengers from the Middle East.
Qatar Airways will make four direct flights to Chiang Mai per week on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday�with Airbus A330-200 which accommodates up to 260 passengers.
Qatar Airways will fly the Doha-Chiang Mai direct route from Dec 12 to May next year and will resume the service in October.
