Rescue operation temporarily suspended due to rising water in cave

Navy Seal teams have suspended their rescue operation at about 6 pm on Monday after water level in the cave has increased due to heavy rains.

Reports from the scene said the water level has reached the ceiling of the cave for quite a distance with the water murky and it was also dark, making it difficult for the frog men from the Navy Seal teams to dive through.

However, rescue operation is expected to resume at about 4 am on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, water pumps have been brought to the cave to pump water out which is expected to reduce the level of water inside the cave.

Chiang Rai governor Narong Osotthanakorn said Monday night that water level in the cave has not receded due to heavy rains.

He said that a helicopter from the border patrol police would survey the terrain again tomorrow to look for other channels to get inside the cave apart from the cave entrance.

Heavy rains were reported at 7 pm, causing water level in the cave to steadily rise.
