The “Shop Chuay Chart” or shop to help the country kicked off yesterday with Thai shoppers taking this tax privilege to buy various things at shopping malls, super markets and seeking for receipts to claim tax refund.
Meanwhile business operators also rolled out sales promotions which includes zero interest for a 10-month installment payment scheme for purchases of household products to boost sales during the Shop Chuay Chart campaign.
They also open counters for customers to get receipts faster for tax refund.
They were confident the two-week tax privilege scheme could push up their sales by 19-20 percent.
At the same time, the internal Trade Department has also joined hands with 17 companies, department stores, and 13,500 supermarkets nationwide to organise 20-80 per cent discount promotions for their customers starting from December 15 to January 4, 2017, for a total of 21 days to encourage shoppers to spend more during the coming New Year at bargain prices.
The campaign is expected to generate no less than 80 billion baht in total sales, and help to lower the cost of living for the people by about 30 per cent on average or by around 24 billion baht .
The Revenue Department has on its website advising people list of products and services that are eligible for tax refund.
For the people, spending on products, food and drinks in restaurants, or from hotels, convenience stores, and shopping malls could all be used for the tax reduction scheme.
However all alcoholic beverages are not included.
Besides motorists can apply for tax refund for automobile parts, car accessories, and maintenance and repair cost with condition that they must be finished within December 31, 2016.
Buying gold ornaments can also be used for tax refund, but only for goldsmith fee added on top of gold prices.
