Imprisoned former media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul is not entitled to ask for leave to attend the funeral of his wife who died over the weekend of cancer.
Corrections Department director-general Kobkiat Kasivivat on Monday clarified the regulations of taking leave from prison by inmates to attend the funeral of their loved ones.
To qualify for taking leave, a prisoner classified as outstanding must have served two-third of his/her prison term; a prisoner classified as very good performance must have served three-fourths of his/her jailterm; a prisoner classified as good performance must have served four-fifths of his/her prison term.
In the case of Sondhi, Mr Kobkiat said that the prisoner who was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment has been in prison for just one month.
