BANGKOK, Thailand — Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has ordered Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon to send his additional explanation on the acquisition of his diamond ring and luxury watches, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.
NACC Secretary-General Worawit Sukboon said the anti-graft commission wrote to Gen Prawit on Thursday, asking him to answer its additional questions within 15 days.
He said that Gen Prawit had explained the acquisition of all his controversial watches but the NACC Secretary-General declined to elaborate on the number of the watches or confirm whether Gen Prawit gave details on the people that he claimed to be their owner.
Worawit said the inquiry would be concluded in the near future. Besides, he assured that the NACC would check the allegation on Gen Prawit’s dubious report on his income during his tenure as the defence minister in the Abhisit Vejjajiva government.
He added that the NACC was investigating temple fund embezzlement, PTT Green Energy’s land acquisition for palm cultivation in Indonesia, Rolls-Royce’s bribery with Thai Airways International and PTT, and permission for a company to use public land in the Huay Mek forest.
