BANGKOK, Thailand A record haul of nearly 10 million methamphetamine tablets was seized Sunday in the northern outskirts of Bangkok, said a police general.
Narcotics Suppression Bureau police raided a building in the Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani province, about 40km north of Bangkok, where an estimated 9,859,000 ‘speed pills’ were found hidden, Deputy National Police Commissioner, General Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan said Monday.
Xinhua news agency reported that in addition, the police seized 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
Two suspected drug traffickers gave police the slip on Saturday night. A police helicopter and tracker dogs have joined in the hunt for the suspects.
According to the police deputy chief, the fugitives were believed to have been hired by those linked to southern Wa rebels who allegedly run the massive production of methamphetamine in Myanmar’s Shan state, opposite Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand.
