Thailand and Vietnam to Advance Their Strengthened Strategic Partnership

Thailand and Vietnam have expressed determination to advance the “Strengthened Strategic Partnership” and to work closely together to enhance bilateral cooperation in all dimensions.

Ambassador of Vietnam to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh on 23 March 2021 paid a courtesy call on Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Thani Thongphakdi, on the occasion of his assumption of duty in Thailand.

Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening trade and investment between the two countries. The Thai side noted the constructive role of Thai investment in contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and appreciated the continued support of the Vietnamese government for Thai businesses in Vietnam.

Thailand and Vietnam are looking forward to exchanges of high-level visits, including the 4th Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR) later this year. They also discussed activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Thailand-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2021.

The Thai side also reaffirmed readiness for its APEC host year in 2022. Thailand looks forward to Vietnam’s support of its concept of promoting the model of Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy during the APEC host year.

Earlier, on 22 March 2021, the Vietnamese Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister commended close and dynamic relations between Thailand and Vietnam as significant strategic partners. However, there is still potential for the two countries to further reinforce cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture.

He was pleased with the increased investment of Thailand’s state enterprises and private sector in Vietnam and called on the Vietnamese government to facilitate the operations of Thai investors there.
