THAILAND: JET SKI RIDER, FRIEND ARRESTED FOR STEALING FROM CHINESE TOURIST

PATTAYA, Thailand — Thai Police arrested a Jet Ski rider and his friend for allegedly stealing valuables worth 1.25 million baht from a Chinese tourist.

Thailand News Agency (TNA) reported that before the arrest, Zhu Jiang, 28, told local police that he lost his waterproof bag that contained valuables worth 1.25 million baht while swimming on a beach of Laan Island in Pattaya.

Police saw from surveillance camera footage that a Jet Ski rider found the bag. The man identified as Ratanapol Sae-ui, a 21-year-old Chon Buri native, was later arrested near Ta Waen beach in Ban Ko Lan village.

Ratanapol admitted to collecting the lost bag and said he gave a diamond ring in the bag to Surasak Intarachote, 50, so that the latter would sell it in Pattaya.

Ratanapol also said he kept a jade necklace and dropped the bag and an iPhone into the sea.

Police later arrested Surasak and retrieved the sold diamond ring. The two men were charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
