Minister of Energy, Thailand attended the 34th Meeting of ASEAN Energy Ministers under the theme “Towards Greener Community with Cleaner Energy” in Myanmar in which EGAT’s former Governor was awarded ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management by Individuals for the ASEAN Energy Awards 2016.
General Anataporn Kanjanarat, Minister of Energy joined the 34th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting in which there were all ten ASEAN Ministers participated under the theme “Towards Greener Community with Cleaner Energy” on September 19-23, 2559 in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. Mr. Areepong Bhoocha-Oom, Minister of Energy and Chairman of EGAT’s Board of Directors, and Mr. Kijja Sripatthangkura, Deputy Governor – Policy and Planning also led the group to attend the meeting.
The Thailand’s Ministry of Energy signed Memorandum of Understanding on LTM on Power Integration Project to encourage the tangible result of ASEAN power grid development whose pilot project is comprised of the interconnection among Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia with the capacity of 100 MW. It is expected to be implemented by 2018 according to the action plan of ASEAN power coordination phase 1. This MOU signing on power purchase across the borders is regarded the first multilateral power purchase in ASEAN.
Moreover, in this event there was the awarding ceremony for the people who played important roles in ASEAN energy. Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, EGAT’s former Governor, was awarded ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management by Individuals for the ASEAN Energy Awards 2016 from his performance to drive ASEAN power grid via the Head of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities Council or HAPUA Council. He also took part in ASEAN transmission system development, power saving, and renewable energy support, which contributed to the continual advancement in ASEAN energy.
