Border patrol police seized a substantial amount of dried marijuana and arrested three men on a road in Sangkhom district of Nong Khai province on Sunday (Jan 28).
Acting on a tip-off that a huge quantity of marijuana, smuggled from Laos, via the adjoining borders of Sangkhom district of Nong Khai and Na Yoong district of Udon Thani was to be delivered by cars to other destinations in-land, a border patrol police unit was deployed on a road in Sangkhom district to watch out for suspicious-looking cars.
The police team found a convoy of three cars travelling close to each other and toward the same direction and gave chase. Two of the three cars were intercepted at a road block while the third escaped.
A search of the two vehicles uncovered 500 packs of dried marijuana hidden in 15 sacks.
The three arrested suspects told the police that they were each paid 30,000 baht to deliver the grass to a shelter for safe keeping in Na Klang district before they were to be delivered to their customers elsewhere.
