Shuttle bus services in Bangkok and peripheral areas operated by Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and private pooled bus companies will go under major revamp in the bud of the state to improve quality of service.
This was disclosed by Mr Arkom Termpittayapaisit, the Minister of Transport, after a joint meeting between the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order.
Mr Arkom said at the meeting he proposed the military junta to exercise Section 44 of the interim constitution to revamp the city bus service so as to improve its quality of service
He said the joint meeting agreed but tasked the ministry six months to work out the overall plan for revamp and submit it back to the meeting for approval.
He said that under the ministry’s proposal, it will revamp the authority in licensing bus services.
He said the Land Transport Department will become the sole authority to grant bus service licenses and bus route concessions both to the BMTA and private bus operators.
