Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, has not ruled out the possibility of joining a government but has reiterated the party’s original conditions for doing so. He emphasized that if the government operates transparently, it should have no concerns about the Democrat Party’s involvement.
According to Thai News Agency, Abhisit addressed the Democrat Party’s stance on government participation, clarifying that no political party has approached them yet. The party has clearly expressed its conditions as promised during the election campaign, with no need to wait for further information. He stated that the decision to join any government hinges on whether it aligns with the conditions set by the party, including potential collaborations with other political entities.
Abhisit responded to questions about the party’s role as a joint opposition with the People’s Party, asserting that transparent governance by the ruling party would alleviate any concerns. He also commented on the timeline for government formation led by Bhumjaithai Party’s leader, Anutin Charnvirakul. Abhisit noted that Anutin prefers clarity in the election results certification process, which is expected to take up to 60 days as per the law.
The Democrat Party leader criticized the Election Commission (EC) for its past inability to address allegations of election fraud effectively. He highlighted current issues within the EC’s processes, leading to public distrust, and urged the commission to expedite its efforts to provide clarity and resolve doubts surrounding the election results.
