Canadian Prime Minister Expresses Condolences Over Tragic School Shooting


Tumbler ridge: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his condolences following a devastating mass shooting at a high school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, which resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals. The tragic event unfolded when a gunman opened fire at the school before taking their own life.



According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Carney took to the X platform to convey his shock and offer his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. In light of the incident, the Prime Minister’s office announced the cancellation of Carney’s planned attendance at the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Germany, scheduled for February 13-15.



British Columbia Premier David Ebee provided updates on the incident, confirming that eight people, including the suspected shooter, were killed in the school shooting. Earlier reports indicated the discovery of six bodies at the school. Additionally, police found two bodies in a residence linked to the shooting and identified the perpetrator as a woman. Premier Ebee committed to visiting Tumbler Ridge to support those affected. The remote community, located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, has a population of 2,400 and is situated approximately 1,555 kilometers northeast of Vancouver.



The incident is reminiscent of Canada’s worst mass shooting in 2020, where a 51-year-old man in Nova Scotia killed 22 people over a 13-hour rampage. The country’s deadliest school shooting occurred in 1989 in Montreal, Quebec, where a gunman killed 14 female students and injured 13 others at a polytechnic school before taking his own life.
