Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior Leads Ceremony to Enshrine Buddha Image

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, led a solemn ceremony to invoke blessings and enshrine the “Phra Phuttha Mahanawanak Patimakor” Buddha image at the Phra Nak Prok Hall in Sirindhorn Park. This event, held within the Ministry of Interior, aimed to bring good fortune and boost morale among civil servants in their efforts to alleviate suffering and promote well-being.

According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony commenced at 6:29 AM on March 24, 2026, with Mr. Sampanrat presiding over the proceedings. The gathering included notable figures such as Mr. Chotinrin Kerdsum, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Mr. Pornphot Penpas, Director-General of the Department of Land; and Mr. Narucha Khosanasila, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, among others. High-ranking officials and civil servants participated in the ceremony, emphasizing its importance.

During the event, Mr. Sampanrat performed traditional rituals by laying a wreath, lighting incense, and candles to pay homage to the Buddha image. Senior executives followed suit, lighting incense and candles at the offering altar. The chief Brahmin astrologer led the incantation, scattering rice grains and flowers on the altar, marking the conclusion of the ceremony.

The “Phra Phuttha Mahanawanak Patimakor” Buddha image, now enshrined at the Phra Nak Prok Hall, faces north and features Sukhothai art inspired by the nine-headed Naga Buddha image at Wat Phra That Chet Thaeo in Sukhothai. Designed under the guidance of Somdej Phra Maharatchamongkol Muni, the image combines traditional art with Rattanakosin era characteristics. The sculpture consists of two parts: the Buddha image and a base with seven layers of coiled Nagas, with “Phaya Muchalinda” shielding the Buddha, according to Buddhist legends.
