Thaksin Shinawatra’s Parole Process Detailed Before Release


Bangkok: Police Lieutenant General Ruddhaphol Naowarat, Minister of Justice, has detailed the timeline for the parole of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, with his release from prison scheduled for May 11th.



According to Thai News Agency, Ruddhaphol revealed that the parole request has been submitted following standard procedures. A critical meeting is set for April 29th to finalize the details of Thaksin’s release. The process is under the oversight of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, who has sanctioned the procedures in line with existing regulations. The parole request has been vetted by three relevant committees, ensuring compliance with general parole standards, with no special treatment or expedited processes involved.



The decision on whether Thaksin will be required to wear an Electronic Monitoring (EM) bracelet during his parole period remains pending, awaiting the committee’s determination.



Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol has refrained from commenting on potential impacts of Thaksin’s parole on the political climate, stating his focus remains on the timeline and legal procedures managed by the Ministry of Justice.
