1st Army Region Deploys Troops to Address Cambodian Encroachment

Sa kaeo: The 1st Army Region has taken action to address the issue of Cambodians encroaching on disputed land for agricultural activities. Troops have been dispatched to the area to engage in discussions and clear out those plowing the land, as part of increased security measures implemented by Thai authorities.

According to Thai News Agency, Major General Winthai Suvari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, highlighted the concerns of Thai citizens regarding the use of land in Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Khok Sung District. He noted that the absence of a clear border demarcation has led to disputes over land ownership. The 1st Army Area Command has taken steps to resolve the situation by initiating dialogue with Cambodian nationals and urging them to refrain from using the land.

The spokesperson further explained that while both sides had previously been lenient about land use, recent conflicts necessitated heightened vigilance. Although Thailand maintains control over certain areas, the demand for a physical border fence remains unresolved due to the lack of an agreed-upon boundary. Barbed wire fences have been installed in some controlled regions.

The border, especially under the jurisdiction of the 2nd Army Region, extends over 400 kilometers, making proper management a time-consuming effort. Major General Suvari emphasized the importance of relying on military and official sources for accurate information to avoid misunderstandings. He noted that while Thai agricultural areas remain unaffected, Cambodian military personnel are responsible for clarifying the situation to their citizens.
