Bangkok: The National Police Chief has announced a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, revealing that over 30,000 suspects have been apprehended, and efforts are underway to confiscate their assets. This move is part of a broader strategy to suppress drug-related activities across the nation.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, outlined the ongoing efforts to disrupt the drug trade during a recent policy presentation. He explained that the drug trade cycle remains consistent, with drugs being transported across borders to storage points and then distributed through various routes into the inner provinces. The police serve as a crucial second line of defense, following the military’s initial interceptions at the borders.
To bolster these efforts, a comprehensive database will be established to monitor and suppress the drug trade effectively. This database will be instrumental in setting targeted operations that require coordination between the police, military, and administrative bodies. The goal is to intercept drugs that manage to breach border controls by utilizing this database to gather intelligence and establish checkpoints. Additionally, collaboration with transport service providers will be crucial in tracking drug transport routes.
The police will also employ specialized government-provided tools to enhance their ability to monitor and track drug movements across the country. Intensified investigations and suppression activities will be conducted, with a strong emphasis on cooperation with neighboring countries to facilitate arrests, expand investigations, and seize assets linked to drug trafficking.
Since the launch of this operation, authorities have recorded over 30,000 cases. The final phase of this plan involves providing treatment and fostering resilient communities to eradicate the drug problem from Thai society, ensuring long-term success in this critical battle against narcotics.
