Abbot in Nonthaburi Disrobes Following Exposure of Secret Relationships

Nonthaburi: The abbot of a well-known temple in Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province, has disrobed after being exposed for secretly maintaining relationships with six female followers. This revelation has sparked significant attention on social media, with images and videos circulating that depict an altercation between two women reportedly linked to the same monk.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident has prompted swift action from religious authorities. Ms. Udomporn Eka-iam, Director of the National Office of Buddhism, alongside representatives from the Secretariat of the Supreme Sangha Council and officials from the Buddhist Protection Group, convened a meeting with the Chief Monk of Nonthaburi Province. The discussions focused on implementing the Supreme Sangha Council's regulations and advising the provincial chief monk to exercise caution and adhere strictly to monastic procedures.

On the evening of February 23, the former abbot formally requested to disrobe during a meeting with Phra Udomsittinayok, the deputy provincial ecclesiastical head of Nonthaburi and abbot of Wat Bang Oichang. The disrobing ceremony was documented through photographs, providing official evidence of the event.
