Anutin Confident Amid Upcoming No-Confidence Debate

Siena:Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, expressed readiness for the upcoming no-confidence debate against him and 18 other ministers. He stated that the government has not yet received an official timeline from the House of Representatives as the motion is still under verification for accuracy.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin emphasized the government's preparedness even if the debate takes place in October, though he has commitments abroad in November for ASEAN and APEC meetings. He noted that the debate schedule should be coordinated by the Speaker of the House and is confident that all ministers, including the Minister of Defence, are well-prepared to address parliament.

Discussing the opposition's request for a five-day debate, Mr. Anutin remarked that while this aligns with established practice, he considers five days excessive. He pointed out that historically, entire governments have been debated.

Mr. Anutin also addressed concerns about the Bhumjaithai Party ministers facing more interpellations than those from the Pheu Thai Party. He explained that with 27 out of 35 ministerial positions belonging to Bhumjaithai, it is expected for their ministers to receive more scrutiny.

Responding to speculations about potential discord within the coalition government, he dismissed the idea, arguing that such issues would not destabilize the government. He viewed the absence of interpellations for the Pheu Thai Party as beneficial, allowing them to continue supporting the government.

As Prime Minister, Mr. Anutin affirmed his responsibility to clarify matters in Parliament. He noted that specific issues would be addressed directly by the relevant ministers, such as Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat for labor issues, Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat for technology and innovation, and Mr. Suriya Jungrungruangkit for agriculture.

Finally, Mr. Anutin expressed confidence that the Pheu Thai Party would remain within the coalition government, asserting, "Of course I'm confident."
