Bangkok: The Sa Kaeo Provincial Police have successfully closed the case of a gold shop robbery at a popular shopping mall in Aranyaprathet, recovering all 72 baht weight of stolen gold. The suspect was apprehended at his residence, and a crime reenactment was conducted.
According to Thai News Agency, the robbery occurred on August 27th at a gold shop inside the Lotus shopping mall in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. The robbers escaped with over 1.1 kilograms of gold ornaments, valued at over 7,716,500 baht. Following the heist, Sa Kaeo Provincial Police, along with their investigative team, launched an immediate manhunt.
On August 29th, authorities discovered the black electric motorcycle used in the crime, abandoned in a canal next to the road at the end of Nong Thao-Wat Non Pa Wan village. Under the seat, officers found 11 pieces of evidence linking the crime to 36-year-old Anont. The police quickly gathered evidence and secured an arrest warrant from the Sa Kaeo Provincial Court.
In a joint operation with the Crime Suppression Division, Sa Kaeo police executed a search warrant at Mr. Anont's residence in Tha Kham Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District. Upon entry, officers arrested Mr. Anont, who confessed to discarding the stolen gold near railway tracks in Ban Mai Nong Sai, Aranyaprathet District. Additionally, he explained the process of assembling a bomb used during the robbery.
