Buenos aires: The President of Argentina did not watch the final match due to his superstitious beliefs. Argentine President Javier Miles has confirmed he will not be attending the 2026 World Cup final against Spain, citing a superstitious belief that his team will always win when he watches the game from home.
According to Thai News Agency, Argentina has a long-standing reputation for superstitions surrounding its presidents. Back at the 1990 World Cup, former President Carlos Menem traveled to Italy to watch Argentina's match against Cameroon, which Cameroon unexpectedly won 1-0.
As a result, Menem was ridiculed as the national team's harbinger of bad luck, and since then, no Argentinian president has ever attended a World Cup match.
