Auditor General Highlights Spending Issues at Thai PBS

Bangkok:The Office of the Auditor General of Thailand (OAG) has announced the results of its audit into the spending of the Public Broadcasting Service of Thailand (Thai PBS), identifying concerns with program production contracts and presenter salaries.

According to Thai News Agency, the findings were presented by Mr. Suthipong Boonithi, Deputy Auditor General and spokesperson for the OAG, during a press conference. The audit covered several areas, including operational efficiency, procurement of news program production, and disbursement of compensation to presenters and guests. Two reports have been issued on these topics, while investigations into individual accountability are ongoing.

The audit revealed that news program production was procured through specific methods, and potential issues were found with the disbursement of personnel compensation. The estimated damages from these issues amount to over 85 million baht. It is emphasized that these findings are preliminary and require further legal processing. Thai PBS has stated it is open to feedback from the audit and is prepared to provide clarification through legal channels, viewing the audit as an opportunity for organizational improvement and increased public trust.

This audit is significant given Thai PBS's role in delivering news and programs for the public good. The OAG aims to ensure that Thai PBS's expenditures adhere to legal and regulatory standards while delivering value for money. Further updates on the audit's progress will be monitored closely.
