Bangkok Court Sentences Actress Poo Manthana for Defamation Against Actress Lukmee

Bangkok: The court sentenced Poo Manthana to two years in prison and fined her 60,000 baht for defamation against Lukmee, but suspended the sentence and placed her on probation for one year. At 9:30 AM on March 4, 2026, in courtroom 403 of the Bangkok South Criminal Court, the court scheduled the reading of the verdict in case number A 442/2568, in which Ms. Rasmi Thongsiripraisri, also known as "Lukmee," a famous actress and model, was the plaintiff, suing Ms. Manthana Himathongkam, also known as "Poo-Manthana," a famous actress, as the defendant for defamation by publication.

According to Thai News Agency, Poo-Manthana arrived with her lawyer, while Lukmee sent her lawyer to hear the verdict on her behalf. The court considered the evidence and found that the defendant had accused the plaintiff in a media interview regarding lending money, but the defendant failed to provide any evidence to prove whether the plaintiff had actually lent money or charged interest to others. The defendant's actions were not conducted in good faith, were not in the public interest, and were done with the intention of defaming the plaintiff and causing him harm, which is the offense as charged by the plaintiff.

The court ruled that the defendant was guilty under Sections 326, 328, and 393 of the Criminal Code, constituting a single act violating multiple provisions. The court imposed the most severe penalty, defamation by publication, sentencing the defendant to two years imprisonment and a fine of 60,000 baht. The prison sentence was suspended for two years, with the defendant placed on probation for one year, requiring them to report to the probation officer three times and perform 48 hours of community service.
